Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my home needs to be repiped?
Clear signs include consistently low water pressure throughout the house, discolored water (especially rust-colored), frequent leaks at multiple locations, and a home built before 1970 that's never been repiped. Homes with polybutylene pipe (gray plastic, common in Gulf Coast homes built in the 1980s–90s) are particularly strong candidates due to that material's known failure rate.
What is polybutylene pipe and why is it a problem?
Polybutylene was a gray plastic pipe used widely from the late 1970s through mid-1990s. It was the subject of major class-action lawsuits because it degrades from the inside out when exposed to chlorine in municipal water, often failing suddenly with no visible external warning. If your home has it, replacement is strongly recommended.
Will a whole-home repipe require major demolition?
Not major, but some wall access is required. We open walls at fixture locations and at points where lines need to be run. Most access points are small. We'll tell you upfront what will be opened so you can plan for patching. For full repiping projects we coordinate wall repair as part of the job.
How long does a whole-home repipe take?
Most single-family homes take one to three days for the pipe work. Water is shut off during the active work hours — you'll have water in the evenings and mornings. We coordinate the schedule with you and minimize the disruption as much as possible.
Does a repipe increase the value of my home?
Yes. A documented repipe with quality materials removes a significant liability from a real estate transaction. Buyers and their inspectors look for it — especially on Gulf Coast homes built during the galvanized and polybutylene eras. It's a legitimate selling point.
